ANGKASA (Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad) Hakam - Hakam or the National Human Rights Society is a human rights organisation working to promote and defend civil liberties in Malaysia. Hakam's work includes (and is by no means limited to) advocacy campaigns for law reform, judicial independence, freedom of expression and freedom of assembly. Soroptimist International Malaysia Southeast Asia: Beautiful Patterns, Common Threads - Join Avi Black, San Francisco teacher, on a trip of discovery through Southeast Asia, as he searches for the common threads that tie together the diverse cultures of the region as well as those things that make them unique. SuaraAnum.com - SuaraAnum.com hopes to be the voice of young Malaysians. It is a bilingual webzine published twice a month by writers under the age of 35 and provides critical comments on local and international politics, literature, arts, culture, religion and many more. We also feature short stories and poems by young Malaysian writers. Women's Aid Organisation (WAO) - set up the first Refuge in Malaysia for victims of domestic violence in 1982. WAO's fundamental belief is that no one deserves to be battered, and we believe that all human beings have the right to self-determination and should have control over the conditions that shape their lives. WAO provides face-to-face and telephone counselling, as well as shelter to women in crisis. WAO also advocates for reform in law and policies that discriminate against women, and organise public education campaigns on gender issues.
